What kind of pencils do you use for your work? I'm curious. I'm an art student, but I can never get value so crisp like that.

all of the black and whites were drawn with graphite pencils (if it's the brand you're asking about, i've been using derwent). as for hardness and softness, it varies. sometimes i just stick with hb, other times i'll use an f, b or h. to get a full range of value, sometimes i'll use a very soft lead on the darkest areas, then step up to harder leads as i pencil in lighter shades. for example, i may use 6b or 7b for the darkest shades, step up to an f or h for the mid-tones, then finish off with a 6h or 7h for the highlights. the problem with this process is that you have to be careful not to use a soft lead on top of a hard lead, which necessitates some degree of planning before you dive into the drawing.
whenever i get the time, i'll have to go through the drawings i have posted and list the different pencils i used for each one (if i can remember which i used, that is). did that answer your question very well?
:iconjodietakira:
Wow. Yes, it did. Thanks for the thorough explanation. It sounds like a long and tedious process (but then what excellent drawing isn't!), but I can see it's worth it in the end. ^^; Thank you again.
